USEF Honors 2 From Los Angeles
By Staff Report February 1, 2011Two Southern Californians were among eight riders recognized by the USEF as Equestrians of Honor for 2010. Nadine Tilley, of Los Angeles, won the Bill Robinson Trophy for a year of excellence in a career that has spanned four decades. The Bill Robinson Trophy is presented annually to a driver competing in non-international competitions. Tilley earned four titles in the 2010 IALHA Nationals with horses she’s bred herself. “I had an incredible year in 2010,” said Tilley, who maintains a ranch in Hemet, where she breeds Andalusians and half-Andalusians. “I knew Bill Robinson very well, and I was honored to even be considered for an award in the realm of driving.”
Lauren La Vine, who is based at the L.A. EquestrianCenter, received the Vaughan Smith Trophy, which is presented annually to the best rider of any horse or pony breed shown in hunter pleasure, show hack, hunter hack, dressage hack, costume, side saddle or Western dressage. La Vine, riding her part-bred Friesians and half-Andalusians, was undefeated at the 2010 International Friesian Show Horse Association (IFSHA) World and Grand Nationals Horse Show, winning eight World Championship titles and six National Championships along the way.
Tom McCutcheon, the double gold medalist in reining at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, was named USEF Equestrian of the Year, while his horse Gunners Special Nite was the 2010 Farnam/Platform USEF Horse of the Year.
Despite the historic individual double bronze medal wins at the 2010 World Equestrian Games by San Diego’s Steffen Peters and Ravel, no dressage horse or rider was among the nominees. Peters was named USEF Equestrian of the Year award in 2008 and again in 2009.
