Fantastic Fridays at Hollywood Park

By April 23, 2011

The Hollywood Park racing complex is home to a variety of entertainments, including a casino (pictured) and a spring concert series.

The historic art deco race palace known as Hollywood Park, in Inglewood, Calif., has thrown open the starting gate on its spring concert series, with music under the stars most Friday nights through May. The track, which was opened in 1938 by the Turf Club under the chairmanship of Harry Warner of Warner Bros., and included among its 600 original shareholders many stars, directors and producers of the film world (including Walt Disney, Joan Blondell, Bing Crosby and Sam Goldwyn).

The pink stucco main structure was designed by the noted Beverly Hills architectural firm Arthur Froehlich & Associates, operational from 1909 to 1985. The facility still boasts a “poker room,” and also opened a casino in July 1994.

Concerts are held on the North Park lawn following live Thoroughbred racing. Night racing kicked off April 22, with the first post at 7:05 p.m. followed by a concert with Snoop Dogg.
