Adolfo Cambiaso returns for his second season of high goal polo at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. Cambiaso was the top ranked polo player in the world when he made his SBP debut last year, joining John Muse and the Lucchese team.

He ultimately helped Lucchese maintain a perfect record for the season – sweeping all three major tournaments: the Lucchese America Cup, the Robert Skene Cup and Bombardier Pacific Coast Open (considered by many to be the most important tournament of the American summer polo season).

Now, a season later, Cambiaso returns to Santa Barbara with his star wattage intact – he continues to be one of only a handful of players in the world to carry a 10-goal rating, and is still the world’s top ranked player.

John Muse is a dedicated amateur player who lives in Dallas, Texas, and is chairman of HM Capital Partners.  In the course of playing better competition every year for the past five years, Mr. Muse has started to develop a keen interest in developing the best possible string of polo ponies to compete at the top level.

In addition to Muse (who carries the top amateur rating of “A”) the Lucchese team includes 6-goal players Andres Weisz and Jason Crowder, in addition to Cambiaso, whose presence in Santa Barbara is a rare opportunity to see a world-class athlete create thrilling sports spectacle locally. Cambiaso will play during the high-goal season, which runs July 6 through Sept. 4, Thursdays through Sundays.

The Texas-based Lucchese company is best-known for its high-end and elaborately hand-crafted cowboy boots, but also offers three styles of luxurious polo boots.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, which is planning a variety of special events to mark the occasion.

Last year marked the club’s first Women’s Polo Tournament, which was a big hit. The event is scheduled again this year, from June 23-26. In addition to polo, related activities like beach rides and picnics heightened the fun and lent a sense of camaraderie to the female players, who represent a small but enthusiastic subset of the polo force.
