It was a one-two punch for Kirsten Coe, who took first and second at the $50,000 Blenheim World Cup Qualifying Grand Prix Sept. 16 at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.

Combined with her third place ribbon at the Grand Prix of Showpark CSI-W in Del Mar Sept. 3, Coe has made a splashy debut this fall season. Karl Cook ― who placed seventh and eighth― racked up a heap of World Cup qualifying points with his performance (on Uno de Laubry and ABS Conquistador, respectively). He is now standing second in North America’s Western League with 36 points. (Richard Spooner leads with 47; Francie Steinwedell-Carvin is third with 13 points.) Three West Coast riders will join seven from the Eastern League to represent the United States at the World Cup Final April 19-22 at Brabenthallen, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Coe landed the blue Sept. 16 with a double clean aboard Baronez, besting her own performance with Combina, who didn’t touch a rail but exceeded the time in the jump-off, earning two faults. Both horses are owned by Ilan Ferder.

Also making the jump-off of four pairs in the field of 20 starters were Michelle Spadone, who placed third on Morgan Hill Partners’ Uwwalon and 19-year-old Saer Coulter, claiming fourth place with Cash 51, owned by Copernicus Stables LLC.

Leopoldo Palacios designed the track, in the Blenheim Farms Covered Arena, with a variety of tests. Each of the twelve numbered efforts came down with the exception of fence eight. The back rail of the final fence, a wide liverpool oxer in front of the in-gate, came out of the cups most often, catching about a third of the class.

The event followed on the heels of a $50,000 Blenheim Equisports CSI-W at the Del Mar Horse Park at which Coe came in third on Combina earlier this month.  At that Sept. 3 event, Karl Cook came in 7th and 10th on ABS Conquistador and Uno de Laubry, respectively.
