When it comes to counting cowboys, not surprisingly Texas has it all over the competition with 54 headed to NFR Finals. Lone Star State residents dominated among the 169 North American riders to make the Professional Cowboy Rodeo Assn.’s list of top moneymakers for 2011. The top 20 in each of nine categories earns an invited to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo where they will compete for $6 million in prize money.

Tthe PRCA’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo takes place Dec. 1010 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Oklahoma will be the next best represented state at the event, with 14 NFR contestants. Utah and Oregon are the only other double-digit states, with 11 each. California produced seven NFR finalists.

Once again Trevor Brazile is the PRCA’s overall World Standing leader. Brazile – who competes in Tie-Down Roping, Team Roping and Steer Roping – has won a record-breaking eight World Championship titles at the NFR, including in 2010, and has career earnings of $3.9 million since 1996.

Though there are 180 potential “slots” to be filled at the NFR, there were 11 who made the Best All-Around Cowboy list of top 20 finalists that also made it into the top 20 of their respective categories, and were counted only once.

The PRCA puts restrictions on the number of events in which a competitor may participate. Those limits are as follows: All-Around, 70; Bareback riding, 100; Steer Wrestling, 70; Team Roping, 70; Saddle Bronc Riding,

85; Tie-Down Roping, 75; and Bull Riding, 125. Bull riders can count Seminole Hard Rock Xtreme Bulls events toward the PRCA World Standings, but not toward the all-around standings. Barrel Racing is included among the NFR sports, but is administered and monitored through a separate group, the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, and is limited to 70 events. (Barrel racers were not tallied in the totals above.)

The following is a complete list of PRCA and WPRA members who qualified for the NFR Finals during the regular season – Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30, 2011.
