Harvey, Blenheim, LEG redo dates
By Staff Report January 23, 2012The year-end West Coast jump circuit has undergone further fine-tuning, with a particular emphasis on the World Cup qualifier dates.
Two months after Blenheim EquiSports and the Langer Equestrian Group announced a reshuffling of their fall show schedule, Dale Harvey has signed on with two events produced through his Palms West – the Del Mar Fall Festival 2 and the Sacramento International Horse Show (presented with Leone Equestrian, Inc), prompting further changes to the previously announced adjustments.
The idea is to create something that feels like an authentic West Coast indoor championship circuit as well as to structure the schedule so it makes geographic sense in terms of convenience. Riders will now conceivably be able to participate in all six CSI-W Rolex/FEI World Cup Qualifier events.
Major changes include the Sacramento International moving earlier to the beginning of October, the L.A. National moving a week earlier, and the Las Vegas National concluding the West Coast circuit. “I am really happy that we could work out this schedule so the riders could more easily get to the various CSI-Ws we have on the West Coast,” offered Harvey.
“It took a lot of work with coordinating the shows, the venues, and other logistics, but I think we’ve got a great line up of shows,” added Langer.
“This is something the West has needed for a long time,” concluded Ridland. “Finally we are going to have a championship set of shows for our riders and we think we are going to see some great things come of it.”
Eventually, Blenheim EquiSports president Robert Ridland thinks the Las Vegas National, which culminates the fall schedule, will become an event for which riders must qualify. “We were pretty much at the limit last year. At that venue, the South Point, there’s not room for a larger number of horses, so in the future we’ll probably have to make it qualified,” Ridland said, adding that he doesn’t expect that to happen before 2013.
The third week in November, while a lucky few head off to the Las Vegas National, LEG will host a B-show called the L.A. Season Finale to take place at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center as an alternative for riders who want to show locally.
