Jogging in Style at Rolex

Horse and riders alike were dressed to the 9’s for the jog and start of the 2012 Rolex Kentucky 3-Day CCI4* Event.

A slight breeze and the warm sunny afternoon created the perfect studio for snapping fashionistas. Forty-three Americans of 57 total competitors got the green light to advance to the dressage phase, which begins tomorrow and runs through Friday.

But the biggest news to come out of this afternoon’s jog was that Phillip Dutton’s mount Mighty Nice spooked and had his legs slip out from under him, falling over  during the normally quiet inspection test.

Mighty Nice was “accepted” nonetheless, having righted himself with little more than a mussed mane and dust on one side of his coat.

Karen O’Connor was stunning in a white pants suit — and yeah, she rocked the heels while jogging Team Rebecca LLC’s Veronica. Another noteworthy outfit was Allison Springer’s dress – bright teal, white and black and patterned with gold horse bits.   The men were turned out nattily enough, but the women seemed to have more to work with. Lucy Wiegersma (GBR), awash in a neon dot matrix patterned coatdress 0ver she led as she led  Granntevka Prince, was certainly one of the brightest spots on the horizon (though Buck Davidson Jr.’s bright red socks might come in for a close second!)
