Joint Jumpin’ for Flintridge
By Staff Report April 25, 2012The 91st Annual Flintridge Horse Show ― the first organized by Dale Harvey and his Palms West ― is an unqualified success even before the first hoof hits the arena tomorrow. The stabling sold out and a wait list was started weeks in advance of the event, which runs through Sunday.
A cocktail party hosted March 24 on the magnificent grounds of the historic Flintridge Riding Club touted the new footing that was installed for the event and gave local community members and media personnel a chance to enjoy time with Harvey and Palms West’s Adrienne Karazissis outside the usual frenzy of a horse show.
The big change Harvey has brought about this first outing include opening the event to amateur and professional riders ― a complete reinvention, as the first 90 years were exclusively as a children’s event.
The addition of the $25,000 Land Rover Pasadena Grand Prix presented by Allen Lund Company is another well-received improvement, aimed at horses and riders who are ready for a big challenge just prior to reaching the meter-fifty/meter-sixty levels.
“We are really excited about this event,” said Harvey, who worked “really hard” with the board of directors of the Flintridge Riding Club to upgrade the facility and with the show committee of the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, which puts on the show, proceeds from which benefit the hospital. New GGT footing, installed by Leone Equestrian’s Rudy Leone, was installed a month prior to the show (and significantly tweaked after last weekend’s rains, in order to make it “show perfect”).
Harvey immediately segues to the 67th Annual Del Mar National Horse Show Hunter Jumper Week, May 1-6, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, just north of San Diego.
