Purina’s Rescue Relief
By Staff Report July 31, 2012Purina wants to lend a hand to rescue groups with hungry horses. The Missouri-based feed manufacturer is giving away $125,000 worth of coupons to rescue shelters that act before Aug. 17.
In partnership with A Home for Every Horse and Equine.com, Purina Horse Feed is gifting each shelter enough of its Strategy and Equine Senior pellets to sustain a horse for a year. To take part in the program, U.S. shelters registered as 501(c)(3) rescues should email their 501(c)(3) determination or verification letters to orders@equine.com or fax to 623-434-9200.
So far, about 150 rescues have taken advantage of the offer, but a Purina spokeswoman said the company has capped the program at a half-ton of feed, which it estimates is enough for about 400 shelters. So dig in!
Cut-off is Aug. 17. All 501(c)(3) shelters that have registered by that time will receive their Purina horse feed coupons in September. Please note that this program is only available to shelters in the U.S.
Judy Glore, president and founder of Heart of Tucson, lauds the company for the initiative, celebrates its billionth feeding of Strategy. The program, Glore said, “has allowed us to put funds to medical care and other needs. We go through a bag of Purina Equine Senior horse feed about every other day, so when you add up the cost, this donation has been able to help us put our funds toward other types of care for the horses.”
