USA jumpers won the FEI Nations Cup in Buenos Aires today, finishing the two rounds on four faults. The CSIO-W 1.50m competition was originally scheduled for Friday but got delayed due to rain.

Argentina and Canada were tied for second at the Nov. 10 event at the Haras El Capricho show jumping grounds in Buenos Aires. A second team from Argentina scored third.

Leading the U.S. effort were Charlie Jacobs (Boston, MA) who jumped fault-free on Deeridge Farms’ Leap of Joy. The duo proved unstoppable on Saturday, winning a second class, the 1.40m speed derby, in a repeat of last year’s performance.  The prize was a zippy new Peugeot car.

Jacobs and the 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding were one of only three combinations to produce a double-clear rounds in the Nations Cup.

Riding in the second spot for the U.S. was Quentin Judge (Wellington, FL) with Double H Farm’s HH Carotino. In the first round the 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding jumped an immaculate clear round and returned later in the day producing a four fault effort for Judge in his U.S. team debut.

Catherine Pasmore (Wellington, FL) also made her first appearance for a high performance U.S. international squad in Buenos Aires. In the first round, she and Pasmore Stables’ 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Z Canta lowered three fences for a 12 fault total. But like Jacons before her Pasmore produced a fault free effort in the second round securing victory for the U.S.

Anchoring the team were U.S. veteran Alison Robitaille (Upperville, VA) and Cover Girl 27. In the first round, the Firestone family’s 8-year-old Wurttemberger mare cruised to a tidy, clear round. Robitaille did not need to return for the second round as Pamore’s clear round meant the U.S. could not be beaten.

The USA took the lion’s share of the prize money ― $28,680 ― while the second-placed teams each got $14,340. Norman Dello Joio served as chef d’equipe.
