California riders occupied three of the top four slots in round one of the HITS $500,000 Diamond Mills Hunter Prix today in Saugerties, New York.

Calabassas-based Jenny Karazissis and Undeniable, owned by Kelly Straeter, led the field of 81 with a blue ribbon in round one of the 3’3″ test. Part two takes place tomorrow, Sept. 7.  Round two takes place tomorrow, followed by the top 25 returning Sunday, when they’ll start with a clean score.

Jimmy Torano (Fort Lauderdale, FL) was second on Kathryn Haffner’s La Bonita. Nick Haness, whose Hunterbrook Farms is based in Cota de la Caza, rode to third on Lexie Looker’s Paddington, followed by Petaluma’s Hope Glynn and King’s Peak, owned by Emma Waldfogel, in fourth place.

The West Coast also fared well, if not quite as spectacularly, in first round results of the 3′ $250,000  Hunter Prix Final. Tonia Cook-Looker of San Dimas, CA, rode Lexie Looker’s Winfield to second.  Ashley Cedillos was fourth riding Marion Lowry’s Dolce, and Los Angeles-based owner Laura Wasserman scored seventh place with Florida rider Reily Rieker in the irons on Thoughtful.

As with the Diamond Mills class, there are two more rounds, including Sunday’s reset on the score ticker, so this is anyone’s horse race to win!
