Quentin Judge and HH Fyloe rode to victory in the first 5* level class of the Longines Masters of Los Angeles, Oct. 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Judge cruised to victory in Prix The Hollywood Reporter 1.45m CSI5* with a time of 56.66 seconds, narrowly edging out Germany’s Jerome Guery and Upper Star. Jame Richard Philips (SUI) and Zekina Z were third over a demanding course set by Belgian designer Luc Musette, who will set all 5* courses at the event.

There was no lack of excitement throughout the afternoon, as Eve Jobs and Quickley 3 won the Écuries d’ Écaussinnes Trophy 1.30m CSI2*. Quickly lived up to his name, scooting Jobs to her second clear round in a zippy 29.181 — nearly seven seconds faster than second-place Chandler Meadows and Petit Prince de Laume. Third-placed Scott Cuba and Ailee had one rail over the challenging course, set by Germany’s Olaf Petersen, who is handling the 2*, Prestige and 1.10m duties this week.

Destry Spielberg placed seventh in the Écuries d’ Écaussinnes, putting her in the in the money, as her parents Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, looked on. (Eve Jobs’ dad, the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, no doubt looked on from above, while Jennifer Gates’ pop, Bill, tends to prefer streaming live to his Surface.)

The Spielberg family repaired to the event’s opening gala together that evening.  Over 850 guests attended the soiree in the Prestige Village lounge — among them Kaley Cuoco, Jessica Springsteen, Georgina Bloomberg and Hannah Selleck and more. World Number 1 Scott Brash, U.S. Number 1 Beezie Madden, U.S. Number 2 Kent Farrington, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Guerdat, British riding legend John Whitaker, making his first return to LA since the 1984 Olympics, and many other champion riders also turned out to relax and sip champagne amidst the equestrian art and chic shopping, celebrating the launch of the second edition of the Longines Masters of Los Angeles. Guests enjoyed a Dressage demonstration by 2015 Pan American Games Gold Medalist Steffen Peters, riding Legolas 92. Music was provided by DJ Powdercoat.

The Longines Masters of Los Angeles will continue over the next three days, bringing together spectacular show jumping action, lifestyle entertainment, one-of-a-kind artwork provided by the Opera Gallery, family-friendly activities in the Kids Village, and more. Highlights of the competition still to come include the Longines Speed Challenge, the Gucci Gold Cup, and the Charity Pro-Am Style & Competition, with the excitement culminating in Sunday afternoon’s Longines Grand Prix.
