Equestrian World Takes Palm Desert by Storm
By Staff Report January 20, 2016They’ve been at the fore with golf togs for 22 years, and now Lady Golf the Fashion House is jumping to new heights with equestrian wear. The 6,000-foot Palm Desert, CA, store has carved out a 1,600-square-foot space for style-conscious riders. The boutique, which carries clothing for women, men and children, had always carried a certain amount of general sportswear — like yoga clothes and leggings — but when owner Karen Cantrell brought in a few high-tech horse-related garments last year, she was surprised at the results.
“It just took off,” she said. “I started with a few items, then a few more, and we were selling out. Equestrian sport seems to be a growing area, and we also get some customers who want the look for everyday use.” Cantrell christened her store-within-a-store Equestrian World, and made a conscious effort stock unusual items from high-end European brands that weren’t widely available at retail in the U.S., among them, Kastel of Denmark, Noel Asmar and Iciküls Sportswear.
“These are some really beautiful designs that can really take you anywhere,” Cantrell said, noting that she enjoys stocking fun items like scarves and leather boot bags, in addition to mainstays like show shirts, breeches and more casual training day attire. “Asmar has some beautiful, brightly-colored leather belts that are reversible, which is very practical. We also carry things like backpacks, in addition to rider-specific things like helmets.”
Popular crowd-pleasers like Pikeur and Joules round out her ample offerings, some $300,000 worth of inventory that includes items for hunter-jumpers, dressage and polo. With the Empire Polo Club in nearby Indio, and the vast HITS Desert Horse Park just around the corner in Thermal, Cantrell plans to be a permanent presence on the equestrian scene, in which she’s already demonstrated more than a fashionable interest, having donated three scholarships to Equestrian Centers Inc., a Rancho Mirage-based facility where coach Michael Cintas gets kids Pentathalon-ready.
Here’s a look at some of Equestrian World by Lady Golf’s offerings, all of them available online as well as in-store.
