Jenni Martin-McAllister ruled the day at the $30,000 Los Angeles International Grand Prix, earning the blue ribbon on Casseur de Prix at the Sept. 22 event. Justin Resnik was second on Carisma Z.
In other news, show producer the Langer Equestrian Group announced that the Los Angeles International Jumping Festival will veer from 30 years of tradition at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, moving to Orange County and the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano in 2014, when the Langer Equestrian Group will partner with Blenheim EquiSports to combine their Blenheim Fall Tournament with the LA International Jumping Festival for two weeks of top hunter-jumper action.
“It could have been any one of them today,” said Martin-McAllister, who had a total of five entries in the class that culminated the Langer Equestrian Group’s Los Angeles International Jumping Festival, Sept. 18-22.
Tasha Visokay and Caspa 7, owned by Georgy Maskrey-Segesman,was third, and Martin-McAllister also placed fourth on LEGIS Here I Come.
It was a picture-perfect day as the 12 contestants took to the grass field to tackle Brazilian designer Guilherme Jorge’s 1.50m course.
Resnik and Carisma produced the first clear, and Martin-McAllister and Casseur the last. In between, Martin-McAllister on LEGIS Here I Come and Visokay and Caspa 7 made it a four-pair jump-off.
Resnik set a fast-pace in round two and held the lead until Martin-McAllister and Casseur, last in. The rider had an unfortunate rail on Here I Come.
Martin-McAllister said that while she thinks LEGIS Venice is “the fastest horse” among those she competed that day, “I took too much risk coming to the first combination and I paid for that with jumping and time faults.”

It was Martin-McAllister’s first grand prix with the 14 year old bay Holsteiner mare owned by Granville Equine of Sun Valley and campaigned successfully by Lane Clarke.
“I thought the roll back turns, from 8 to 9 in the first round and 5 to the double combination at 6a-6b were great,” Martin-McAllister said, adding, “the last combination in the first round would be hard. I needed to gallop at it to get the time.”
There was a pre-class dust-up as Mark Watring’s Contact crashed through a jump in the warm up ring. The duo gamely tried to tackle the course, but entered the ring a bit off-kilter and came away with 12 faults.
For his part, Jorge felt “the most technical obstacle” was 3 a-b. “Jumps 9-10-11 gave the riders a choice of six- or seven strides to the next oxer, which was tricky and demanded more rideability.” Jorge said he had designed for this LEG show before but particularly enjoyed the opportunity to set the grand prix course on grass, which was a new aspect for him.
Visokay and Caspa 7 were the winners of Thursday night’s $10,000 Welcome Stake.
