For the second consecutive year, Canada team took gold for the 2011 SmartPak Reining Team Championships at the Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships, with the country also sending a bronze medal north of the border.

The top-placed score at the July 29 event in Lexington, Kentucky, was 623 for Alberta/Manitoba riders Jessica Green, Lisa Hiebert, Nancy Pratch and Kylie Wasiuta. Pratch was also the individual gold medal winner at the NAJYRC 2010.

Canada’s bronze reining team, from Saskatchewan, had a combined score of 615 thanks to the efforts of Brent Dembisky, Shelbie Friesen, Jon Katzman, and Lindsay Wankel.

In its inaugural year at the NAJYRC, team Mexico took second place, claiming the silver medal with only no drop score and only three riders: Jesus Arturo Leal, Gerardo Leal and Gilberto Leal rising to the occasion and a score of 619.5. (Teammate Alberto Aguilar withdrew prior to the competition when his horse failed to pass the jog inspection.)

“We are very proud to bring the silver medal back to Mexico and we give many thanks to our horses, our coaches and to the sponsors and organizers of this amazing event,” Aguilar said on behalf of his team.
